AMC Congress Corporator Under Scanner for ‘Bogus’ School Leaving Certificate

Ahmedabad: A newly elected Congress corporator of the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has come under scrutiny for allegedly submitting a bogus school leaving certificate (LC), with the Ahmedabad City District Education Officer directing that a police complaint be filed following a preliminary inquiry.

The case pertains to Kalpanaben Kodekar, an elected corporator from the Kubernagar ward. The inquiry was initiated after a complaint by Chirag Shah, who alleged that the LC submitted in the name of Kalpanaben Surajbhai Navlekar was forged.

During verification, officials found discrepancies in the document, including a mismatch in the General Register (GR) and LC numbers. The probe revealed that the GR number cited in the certificate belonged to another individual, and no records confirmed that the corporator had studied at the school mentioned.

According to Education Officer Rohit Chaudhary, the LC stated that the candidate had studied at Krishnanagar Vidyavihar School and left in 1990 from Saijpur Bogha, citing GR No. 1248 and LC No. 3194. However, a detailed inquiry conducted by an appointed inspector, in coordination with school authorities, confirmed that the document had not been issued by the school.

School administrators further stated that the LC was fabricated and bore a forged signature. Based on these findings, the Education Department has instructed the school authorities to file a police complaint against the corporator.

Officials said the case is prima facie established, though further details are expected to emerge once a formal police investigation begins. They also noted that no evidence was found to indicate that any person by the claimed name was enrolled in the school during the stated period. DeshGujarat
