Ahmedabad Congress Corporator Booked for Forgery Over ‘Fake School Leaving Certificate’

Ahmedabad: The Krishnanagar Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against a newly elected Congress corporator of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) for allegedly using a forged school leaving certificate (LC) to contest the 2026 municipal elections.

The accused corporator Kalpana Surajbhai Navlekar (now Kodekar), a resident of Sardarnagar who won the AMC election from Kubernagar ward, is alleged to have submitted a fraudulent school leaving certificate purportedly issued by Krishnanagar Vidhyavihar High School. According to the complaint, she used the forged document as valid proof of her educational qualifications while filing her nomination papers for the AMC elections.

The matter came to light following an inquiry initiated by the District Education Officer (DEO) based on a complaint filed by one Chirag Shah. The school’s managing trustee and complainant, Ashokkumar Kantilal Patel, stated that verification of the school’s General Registers (GR) from 1981 and 1988 revealed significant discrepancies.

During the probe, it was found that GR No. 1248 provided by the Congress candidate belonged to Chavda Hasmukhbhai Madhukant in the school register, while LC No. 3194 in the LC book belongs to Soni Ankitkumar Girishbhai. Furthermore, the certificate of Kalpanaben Surajbhai Navlekar shows the date of admission as June 27, 1988; however, no student by that name is recorded in the school’s General Register on that date.

Accordingly, Education Inspector R.M. Makdiya and Assistant Education Inspector Himanshu C. Vyas submitted their inquiry report dated 30/04/2026 to the District Education Officer. Based on this, the District Education Officer authorized the school to file a complaint.

The complaint stated that no student by the name of Kalpanaben Surajbhai Navlekar had been enrolled in the school, raising serious doubts about the authenticity of the certificate submitted during the nomination process.

Based on the complaint, the Krishnanagar Police have booked the Congress corporator under Sections 336(2) and 340(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The action follows verification reports submitted by the Education Inspector and Assistant Education Inspector, which confirmed that the document was not genuine. DeshGujarat
