Married Hindu Women Lured in Love Trap, ‘Brainwashed’ for Religious Conversion in Surat

Surat: Allegations of coercion and an attempted religious conversion have surfaced from Karjan village in Kamrej taluka, where a married Hindu Brahmin woman was allegedly lured into a relationship and pressured to change her religion by a Muslim youth. The matter has drawn the attention of state Health Minister Praful Pansheriya, who visited the victim’s family and directed police to take strict action.

According to a complaint filed at Kamrej police station, the husband of the woman, who has two children, alleged that a Muslim youth from neighboring Ghala village befriended his wife and subsequently “brainwashed” her.

The complainant has further alleged that his wife is being continuously pressured to convert. He further alleged that the matter may not be limited to a personal relationship but could be part of a larger, organised effort.

Taking note of the seriousness of the allegations, the minister visited the family and expressed concern over what he described as a possible “well-planned racket.” He also referred to claims that the accused had issued threats to the husband.

Following the visit, Praful Pansheriya held a telephonic conversation with the Surat district police chief, directing officials to conduct a thorough investigation, examine the possibility of a wider network, and take strict action in accordance with the law.

Police said they have begun examining the complaint, and further investigation is underway. DeshGujarat
