AAP spokesperson arrested in rape and intimidation case in Surat

Surat: Aam Admi Party (AAP) Spokesperson Kalu Vaghasiya was arrested by Surat Police in connection with a rape and intimidation case after allegedly evading arrest for nearly a month.

According to the complaint lodged at Laskana police station, the accused allegedly contacted the woman through social media in December 2024 and developed a friendship with her. The complainant alleged that he gained her trust using his political identity and later established a relationship with her on the promise of divorcing his wife and marrying her.

Police said the accused remained absconding after the FIR was registered and frequently changed locations to avoid arrest.

Acting on technical surveillance inputs and information from informants, the Laskana police traced his location and detained him from the Laskana area.

Police have intensified further investigation after the arrest. The case has drawn attention in the city due to the accused’s political association.
