Ahmedabad to Get Sports Activity Centres Under Nine Bridges
June 02, 2026
Ahmedabad: The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is set to develop sports activity centres beneath nine bridges across the city as part of its vision to make Ahmedabad a world-class sports hub and promote fitness among residents.
The civic body has already developed sports activity centres under the SIMS and Ranip underbridges, providing a range of facilities for children, youth and other residents. Similar projects are planned under the Laxmanrao Vakil Saheb Bridge, Anjali Bridge and Ghodasar Bridge, with the tendering process being carried out under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
In the next phase, sports facilities are planned under the Dinesh Chamber Flyover Bridge, Guruji Over Bridge, Gujarat College Railway Over Bridge and Rajendra Park Flyover Bridge. AMC officials said the projects are being fast-tracked to expand sports infrastructure across different parts of Ahmedabad.
The initiative aims to make sports facilities accessible within neighbourhoods, encourage greater participation in sports and provide children and young athletes with training opportunities close to home.
The centres feature facilities for cricket, football, basketball, badminton, skating and fitness activities. The sports activity centre under the SIMS Bridge includes amenities for air hockey, table tennis, chess, carrom, box cricket, pickleball, basketball, pool and foosball, while similar facilities have been developed under the Ranip underbridge. Sports equipment has also been provided to ensure accessibility for people of all age groups.
AMC said the project not only promotes sports and fitness but also puts long-neglected urban spaces to productive use, enhancing the city’s aesthetics and contributing to urban renewal.
To ensure safety and proper maintenance, the civic body plans to install CCTV cameras and adequate LED lighting, while undertaking regular cleaning and upkeep of the facilities.
The civic body is also planning to organise local tournaments, coaching camps and sports programmes, while exploring the development of new sports complexes, mini stadiums and training academies across the city.
AMC said the expansion of sports infrastructure is expected to boost sports tourism, create employment opportunities and support long-term preparations for major international sporting events, including the 2030 Commonwealth Games and the 2036 Olympic Games. DeshGujarat
