Schools Reopen Across Gujarat After 35-Day Summer Vacation; New Academic Year 2026-27 Begins

Ahmedabad: Schools across Gujarat reopened on Monday after a 35-day summer vacation, marking the beginning of the 2026-27 academic session. More than 54,000 government, grant-in-aid and private schools across the state came alive with the return of students. Over 1.15 crore students began the new academic year, with many schools organizing special welcome programmes. Students were greeted with tilak ceremonies, flowers and other welcoming activities to mark the occasion.
The summer vacation was observed from May 4 to June 7, giving students a total of 35 days off. With schools reopening, regular academic activities have resumed across the state.
According to the academic calendar released by the Education Department, the first semester will comprise 120 teaching days, while the second semester will have 124 teaching days.
The 2026-27 academic year will include a total of 244 teaching days. In addition, students will get 121 holidays during the year, including Sundays, public holidays and vacation periods. DeshGujarat
