AMC Installs Ahmedabad’s First Pelican Signal on Trial at CG Road

Ahmedabad: The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has installed a Pelican (push-button-operated) traffic signal on a trial basis near Municipal Market on C.G. Road, one of the busiest corridors in the city. The aim of the initiative is to prioritize the safety of pedestrians and make the traffic system smoother.

This new signal has currently been handed over to the Ahmedabad City Traffic Police for operation and use by citizens. The implementation of this experimental signal will be closely monitored. If this trial is found to be successful and appropriate, such Pelican signals will also be installed at other busy and high-traffic locations in the city as per the requirements of the Traffic Police.

What is a Pelican signal and how does it work?

A Pelican signal is a button-operated signal system specially designed for pedestrians.

When a citizen wants to cross a busy road, he or she has to press the button installed on the signal pole.

As soon as the button is pressed, the signal system will be activated, and within a few moments, the light for vehicles will turn red.

This will stop vehicles and give pedestrians enough time to cross the road safely without fear.

A humble appeal to citizens

The civic body and Ahmedabad City Traffic Police jointly appeal to all citizens to make maximum use of this new facility while passing through the Municipal Market area. Along with this, all motorists are also requested to stop their vehicles as per the rules and cooperate with pedestrians when the Pelican signal turns red so that travel becomes safe and pleasant for all.
