AMC Files Police Complaints Against Citizens for Obstructing Stray Dog Control Drive
June 23, 2026
Ahmedabad: The CNCD department of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has initiated legal action against citizens who allegedly obstructed stray dog control operations in the city. Recently, police complaints were registered in two separate incidents in the Paldi area for interfering with government work.
In the first incident, on June 22, 2026, an AMC team visited Vardhman Flats in the Paldi police station area to carry out dog sterilization and vaccination work. According to AMC, residents Jeet Panchal and Arsh Bafna obstructed the operation. The duo allegedly argued with staff members, misbehaved with them, and even stopped the vehicle transporting the dogs. Following a complaint filed by the AMC staff on duty, a case has been registered against both individuals at Paldi police station.
In the second incident, earlier this month, a corporation team accompanied by members of the People for Animals organisation reached Parag Society in Paldi following a complaint. AMC said a resident identified as Ishit Shah obstructed the operation by insisting that the dogs not be taken. Police assistance was sought through the 112 helpline, and an application seeking legal action was subsequently submitted to Paldi police station.
In a press note, AMC stated that the action has been taken in line with directives issued by the Supreme Court, which has ordered legal action against individuals who create obstacles or hinder stray dog management activities.
Meanwhile, the civic body said efforts to strengthen stray dog control infrastructure are underway. New dog shelters are being constructed at Vakrol and Lambha and are expected to become operational by June 2026.
