AMC Solid Waste Truck Gets Stuck in Sinkhole Near Vasna APMC in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad: With monsoon rains battering the city, a huge sinkhole opened on a road near APMC Market in Vasna area of the city. Following the road collapse, a container truck belonging to the Amdavad Municipal Corporation’s (AMC) Solid Waste Department got stuck in the sinkhole.

The incident occurred beneath the metro corridor on the road connecting Vasna APMC and Yogeshwar Nagar. According to reports, the road suddenly caved in while the truck was passing, causing its rear portion to sink into the collapsed stretch. Fortunately, no one was injured.

According to preliminary information, the cave-in was caused by a ‘crown breakdown’ (failure of the upper section) in a 900-mm-diameter drainage line running beneath the road. The drainage line is located at a depth of approximately 18 to 20 feet. Traffic was also affected after the road collapsed on this busy stretch opposite Vaishali Township and APMC Market.

Senior officials of the Municipal Corporation and zonal staff rushed to the spot soon after the incident was reported. The affected area has been barricaded as a precaution to prevent any further accidents. Restoration work, including filling the sinkhole and removing the stranded truck, is currently underway.
