July 07, 2026
Surat: The city has been battered by very heavy and incessant rainfall over the last two days. Additionally, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall on the morning of Wednesday, July 8, 2026. In view of the forecast and to ensure the safety of students, a holiday has been declared for students in all schools and anganwadis across Surat district.
District Education Officer (DEO) Dr. Bhagirathsinh Parmar said in a circular issued on Tuesday that the decision was taken based on the bulletin issued by the Meteorological Department late on July 7 and instructions received from the district administration.
Under the order, students of all primary, secondary and higher secondary schools in the Surat Municipal Corporation area, all municipalities in Surat district, and rural areas will have a holiday on Wednesday, July 8. In addition, a holiday has also been declared for children attending all anganwadis in the district.
The District Education Officer clarified that the decision has been taken solely to ensure the safety of students so that no untoward incidents occur while travelling to and from school during the heavy rains.
Notably, the district administration had also declared a holiday for schools on Tuesday after heavy rainfall left several parts of the city waterlogged. DeshGujarat
