Surat city gets over 33% of last year’s total rainfall; reaches 53% of seasonal average

Surat: Amid continuous rain in South Gujarat, Surat city has witnessed unprecedented rainfall over the last three days. According to a report released by the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) at 6 am on July 8, Surat city has so far received 773 mm of rainfall. This is 52.84 percent of the city’s average seasonal rainfall over the last 30 years.

If the rainfall data is compared with last year, the city has already received nearly 34 percent of its total rainfall recorded in 2025. According to the data, Surat city received a total of 2,289 mm of rainfall between June and November last year. Against that, the city has already recorded 773 mm of rainfall in just the first week of July this year, which works out to 33.77 percent of last year’s total.

All the talukas in the district have received good rainfall. Palsana has recorded the highest rainfall at 1,039 mm (40.91 inches), which is 62.92 percent of its average seasonal rainfall. It is followed by Kamrej with 968 mm (38.11 inches), Mahuva with 780 mm (30.71 inches), and Bardoli with 763 mm (30.04 inches).

During the last 24 hours ending at 6 am today, the highest rainfall of 462 mm was recorded in Palsana taluka. This was followed by 442 mm in Kamrej, 358 mm in Surat city, 225 mm in Mahuva, 161 mm in Umarpada, and 89 mm in Mangrol.

The average rainfall recorded across Gujarat so far stands at 222.10 mm (8.74 inches), which is 24.44 percent of the state’s average seasonal rainfall. DeshGujarat
