AMC plans three-lane roads on both sides of Kharicut Canal

Ahmedabad: The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Tuesday reviewed the progress of the Kharicut Canal development project and approved key changes, including widening the proposed roads on both sides of the canal into three-lane carriageways to improve connectivity and ease traffic in eastern Ahmedabad.

Mayor Hitesh Barot, Standing Committee Chairman Kamlesh Patel, Ruling Party Leader Jashu Thakor and senior AMC officials inspected the 12.7-km corridor from Naroda to Vinzol.

The project aims to transform the canal corridor into a modern urban roadway with improved transport infrastructure and green spaces. The original plan included 9.5-metre-wide roads on both sides of the canal, along with green belts, service roads and footpaths, depending on the available right of way.

Following the inspection, officials decided to upgrade the roads into three-lane carriageways on both sides. The revised plan also includes a continuous green corridor with tree plantations, footpaths and redesigned junctions to improve traffic flow, road safety and pedestrian access.

The mayor directed officials to expedite the project while ensuring planned execution. According to AMC, the completed project will enhance road connectivity, traffic management and the overall urban landscape, besides providing better public amenities for residents of eastern Ahmedabad. DeshGujarat
