AMC Fires 13 AMTS, BRTS Bus Drivers for Reckless Driving, Misconduct with Passengers

Ahmedabad: The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has terminated 13 bus drivers from its AMTS and BRTS services after surprise inspections found them involved in traffic violations, unsafe driving and misconduct with passengers.

The action comes in response to a series of complaints from commuters, who alleged that some drivers were rude to passengers, skipped designated bus stops and drove recklessly, resulting in accidents. There were also allegations that a few drivers had operated buses under the influence of alcohol.

Of the 13 drivers dismissed, 10 were employed with the Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Service (AMTS), while three were part of the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS).

According to AMC officials, the civic body carried out a special inspection drive throughout June to monitor driver behaviour and ensure compliance with safety norms. Surprise checks were conducted on buses across various city routes to assess whether drivers were following traffic rules and delivering safe, commuter-friendly services.

An AMTS official said the exercise was undertaken to improve passenger safety and maintain the quality of Ahmedabad’s public transport system.

The official added that drivers found violating traffic regulations, failing to stop at designated bus stops, misbehaving with passengers or being involved in accidents were removed from service with immediate effect. DeshGujarat
