AMC Launches IoT-Based Pilot Project to Curb Noise Pollution in Ahmedabad
July 14, 2026
Ahmedabad: In a bid to curb rising noise pollution, the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has launched a technology-driven pilot project to monitor and reduce the excessive use of vehicle horns across the city.
Under the initiative, IoT-based YHonk devices, developed by YHonk Technology Private Limited, will be installed in selected vehicles. Equipped with smart noise sensors, the devices will collect and analyse data on how frequently vehicle horns are used.
The project is part of the Urban Noise Assessment and Mitigation Planning Program, under which the collected data will be used to create awareness among drivers about the responsible and limited use of vehicle horns. The initiative aims to encourage behavioural change and help reduce noise pollution in Ahmedabad.
As part of the pilot phase, YHonk Technology Private Limited will install the devices free of cost in 300 AMC vehicles of different categories. Based on the findings, drivers will also be provided with guidance and training to discourage unnecessary honking.
AMC said the outcome of the pilot project will help the civic body formulate more effective strategies and long-term measures to control noise pollution in the city. DeshGujarat
