Ahmedabad: The Gujarat Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday caught a junior clerk of the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) allegedly accepting a ₹2,000 bribe from a citizen for processing a property tax-related application.
The accused has been identified as Jay Dinesh Kulkarni (33), a Class-III Junior Clerk in the Property Tax Department’s Tax Middle Zone at AMC’s Sardar Patel Bhavan in Danapith.
According to the ACB, the complainant had applied to the AMC to have his name entered as the occupier in the property tax records of his house. During the processing of the application, the accused allegedly demanded a bribe of ₹5,000 for approving the request.
The complainant allegedly paid ₹3,000 earlier at his office, while the remaining ₹2,000 was to be paid within a few days. Unwilling to pay the balance amount, the complainant approached the ACB, which laid a trap.
During the operation, the accused allegedly held a conversation regarding the bribe, accepted the remaining ₹2,000, and was caught red-handed at the AMC staff canteen in Danapith. The tainted money was recovered from his possession. DeshGujarat
