AMC deploys cleaning marshals on Ahmedabad Heritage Route, Manek Chowk

Ahmedabad: To maintain cleanliness at the historic heritage and tourist sites of Ahmedabad, a UNESCO World Heritage City, the Central Zone Solid Waste Management Department of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has introduced a special cleaning mechanism along the Heritage Route and in the Manek Chowk area.

Under the new system, special arrangements have been made for continuous cleaning, efficient waste disposal and strict enforcement of cleanliness rules to ensure that the city’s busiest tourist areas remain clean.

As part of the initiative, five special Cleaning Marshals have been deployed to continuously monitor cleanliness along the Heritage Route and in Manek Chowk. The marshals will keep a watch on people littering in public places, create awareness among residents and traders about maintaining cleanliness, and take action against those found violating waste disposal rules by throwing garbage on public roads.

The special cleaning system will cover the entire Heritage Route, including stretches from Kalupur Swaminarayan Temple to Lambeshwarni Pol, Haja Patelni Pol to Shantinath Derasar, Indrakot, Popat Gokh, Doshiwada ni Pol, Doshiwada ni Pol to Challa Ode and Jama Masjid, Jama Masjid to Manek Chowk, and Juna Sher Bazar to Lakha Patelni Pol.

In the Manek Chowk area, sanitation marshals will also monitor Three Door Road, Pankor Naka to Chandravilas Hotel, Fuwara to Challa Ode, Manek Chowk–Juna Sher Bazar Road, Juna Sher Bazar–Masala Bazar Road, and the stretch from Masala Bazar to Pankor Naka Crossroad.

To facilitate proper waste disposal, AMC has strengthened collection services for residents and traders in the area. Door-to-door garbage collection vehicles, e-rickshaws and sanitation workers have been deployed to ensure regular collection of waste from residential and commercial establishments, preventing garbage from accumulating on public roads.

Considering the large number of food stalls and eateries that operate at Manek Chowk during the night, the civic body has also introduced a dedicated night cleaning system. Sanitation workers will remain deployed from before the market opens until it closes, while special waste collection vehicles will ensure the immediate removal of garbage to keep the area clean throughout the night.

The AMC has appealed to traders, local residents and tourists not to litter on public roads and to dispose of waste only in designated dustbins or hand it over to door-to-door garbage collection vehicles.
