Shahibaug Underpass in Ahmedabad Set for Rs 24.81 Crore Revamp
July 22, 2026
Ahmedabad: The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has initiated the process to redevelop one of the city’s busiest road links, the Shahibaug Underpass, by floating a Rs. 24.81 crore tender. The project aims to reconstruct the underpass, widen the road infrastructure, and improve traffic movement on one of Ahmedabad’s key corridors connecting the airport with Delhi Darwaza, Kalupur, and other parts of the city.
Under the project, the existing underpass will be reconstructed, an additional lane will be added towards the RTO, and two-lane at-grade (surface) roads will be built along both sides of the railway boundary. The proposed improvements are intended to reduce congestion and enhance traffic management in the Shahibaug area.
The estimated project cost is Rs. 24.81 crore, excluding GST. The project is expected to be completed in 18 months, including the monsoon period.
Construction is expected to begin within two to three months after the completion of the tendering process.
During the construction phase, the Shahibaug Underpass is likely to remain completely closed to vehicular traffic from October, with motorists required to use alternate routes. The closure is expected to impact daily commuters, particularly as major infrastructure projects are already underway at Sarangpur Bridge and Subhash Bridge, potentially leading to traffic diversions and longer travel times until the redevelopment is completed.
