Manjalpur By-Election Sees 37.5% Polling; Vote Counting on August 3

Vadodara: The by-election to the Manjalpur Assembly constituency in Vadodara recorded a voter turnout of 37.5 per cent on Thursday, with polling passing off peacefully, election officials said. Voting was held from 7 am to 6 pm, and no untoward incidents were reported, according to the Gujarat Chief Electoral Officer. The final polling percentage may increase slightly after all reports are compiled.

The Manjalpur seat had registered a voter turnout of 60.15 per cent in the 2022 Gujarat Assembly elections. Votes polled in the by-election will be counted on August 3.

The bypoll was necessitated by the death of senior BJP MLA and former Gujarat minister Yogesh Patel on June 2, following a prolonged illness.

The contest was primarily between the BJP’s Satish Govindbhai Patel, a former Vadodara Municipal Corporation councillor, and Gujarat Congress vice-president and former minister Bhikhabhai Rabari.

A total of 2.19 lakh voters, including 1,11,645 men, 1,07,847 women, and two third-gender voters, were eligible to vote. Polling was conducted across 260 polling stations, where the Election Commission implemented measures such as 100 per cent webcasting, mobile deposit facilities for electronic devices, and real-time monitoring to ensure smooth polling.
