Water Level Situation in Major Dams Across Gujarat on July 31; Sardar Sarovar 71% Full

Gandhinagar: Amid the active monsoon season in the state, water inflows into Gujarat’s reservoirs continue to rise. An average storage of 46.24 percent has been recorded across the state’s 206 reservoirs, while the state’s largest reservoir, the Sardar Sarovar (Narmada) Dam, has reached 71.48 percent of its total storage capacity.

According to the state government’s report issued at 8 am on July 31, 13 dams are currently full, while 21 dams are on high alert, four are on alert and 13 are under warning.

The Sardar Sarovar Dam currently holds 2,38,793 MCFT of water. The water level stands at 424.21 feet against the full reservoir level (FRL) of 454.98 feet. The dam is receiving an inflow of 59,238 cusecs, while 617 cusecs of water is being released into the river.

The state’s other 206 reservoirs together hold 2,57,955 MCFT of water, which is 46.24 percent of their total storage capacity.

According to the latest dam status, 13 dams are 100 percent full, while 25 dams are between 70 and 100 percent full, 31 dams are between 50 and 70 percent full, 55 dams are between 25 and 50 percent full, and 82 dams are still below 25 percent capacity.

Currently, 21 dams are on high alert. These include Dhatarwadi and Surajwadi in Amreli, Dholi and Baldeva in Bharuch, Shetrunji and Rojki in Bhavnagar, Fatehgadh in Kutch, Jhuj and Keliya in Navsari, Lakhigam in Surat, Doswada in Tapi and Machhu-II in Morbi.

Apart from these, four dams are on alert, including Malan in Bhavnagar, Bhadar-II and Lalpari in Rajkot, and Rawal in Gir Somnath. Meanwhile, 13 dams are under the warning category, including Sukhi, Kharo, Shell-Dedumal, Pingli, Umaria, Venu-II, Saran, Aji-II, Bantwa-Kharo, Hanol, Kalubhar, Kalaghogha and Kaniyad.

Among the major reservoirs, Machhu-II is 98.17 percent full, while Shetrunji has reached 100 percent capacity. Sukhi is 79.11 percent full, Brahmani 67.94 percent, Karjan 62.49 percent, Panam 54.80 percent, Hathmati 49.98 percent, Dharoi 46.97 percent, Kadana 45.01 percent and Ukai 44.80 percent. Sipu (4.92 percent) and Und-I (5.03 percent) have recorded the lowest storage levels.

Several ungated overflow dams are also witnessing continuous inflows. Jhuj and Keliya in Navsari, Dholi in Bharuch, Wanakbori in Mahisagar and Dhatarwadi in Amreli are completely full, with water being released into downstream rivers in line with the inflows.
