Illegal Tree Felling at Rasala Park: AMC Issues Notice to Garden Supervisor

Ahmedabad: The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has initiated action after a tree was allegedly felled without permission inside Rasala Park, where the civic body’s Garden Department has its headquarters.

The issue came to light after a video showing tree cutting inside the park near Law Garden went viral on social media. Ellisbridge MLA Amit Shah raised the matter with the Garden Department, alleging that healthy trees were being cut without any valid reason.

A preliminary inquiry by the department found that the tree had been cut without mandatory approval. A show-cause notice has since been issued to the garden supervisor for alleged negligence.

The incident has sparked attention as it comes while the AMC is running its ambitious ‘Mission Five Million Trees’ campaign to plant 5 million trees across the city during the monsoon.

Garden Department Director A.C. Patel confirmed that the tree was cut without permission and said disciplinary action has been initiated.

AMC officials, however, clarified that Rasala Park falls under the Zoo Department. According to them, zoo staff cut down a tree after receiving complaints that it had become hollow and posed a safety risk. However, they failed to obtain mandatory approval from the competent authority before doing so, making the action a violation of the rules.

Officials said the matter is being taken seriously, and strict action will be taken against those responsible. While the viral video appeared to show multiple trees being cut, the AMC maintained that only one tree was felled, while the remaining trees were only pruned. DeshGujarat
