KFC, HL Frankie, Delhi 6 Paratha Point Among Six Food Units Sealed in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad: The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) Health and Food Department has sealed six food businesses across Ahmedabad, including a KFC outlet, during inspections conducted under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and the GPMC Act. The action followed the detection of unhygienic conditions, food safety violations, failed food samples and other irregularities.

Among the sealed units was Asian Bakery in Danilimda, where officials found that the establishment did not have the required food safety licence or registration and had printed an incorrect licence number on its packets. Inspectors also found a large number of flies and other insects in the production area, along with violations of Schedule 4 hygiene requirements.

The AMC seized 5,700 kg of flour and sugar worth ₹1.95 lakh from the premises and destroyed 220 kg of bread, buns and flour worth around ₹16,110, after finding the products unfit for consumption.

Three other establishments—HL Fanki in Navrangpura, Jay Somnath Tea Stall at Geeta Mandir and Delhi 6 Paratha Point in Navrangpura—were sealed after previously collected samples were declared “analogue” in laboratory testing. During inspections, officials also found unhygienic conditions at the premises. The samples involved butter, maska and medium-fat paneer, respectively.

The AMC also sealed the repacking unit of Janaki Enterprise after a turmeric powder sample collected from its Vatva retail outlet was found to have a high starch content. Officials subsequently inspected PM Foods in Kubernagar, identified as the repacker, and suspended 548 kg of turmeric, chilli and coriander powder worth ₹2.77 lakh. Fresh samples were collected under the FSSAI Act.

In another action, the AMC sealed the Sapphire Foods India Pvt. Ltd. (KFC) outlet near Prahladnagar Garden after the Total Polar Compounds (TPC) level in its cooking oil was recorded at 29.5, indicating that the oil had exceeded the permissible safety limit.

The AMC said inspections of food businesses will continue across the city, with a focus on hygiene, food safety licences and compliance with prescribed standards. Officials warned that strict action would be taken against establishments found violating food safety norms. DeshGujarat
