AMC Waives Charges for Dead Body Van Service Within Civic Limits
August 13, 2026
Ahmedabad: The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has approved a proposal to provide its shavvahini (dead body transport) service free of charge within the civic body’s limits.
The AMC’s Fire and Emergency Services Department operates shavvahini services to transport the deceased from hospitals to their homes or from homes to cremation grounds. Until now, citizens were charged fees for availing of the service as per the rates approved by the civic body.
At the Standing Committee meeting held on Thursday, AMC officials and office bearers approved the cancellation of the charges levied for the shavvahini service within the AMC limits.
With the decision, residents of Ahmedabad will now be able to use the shavvahini service without paying any charges for transporting the deceased from a hospital to their home or from their home to a crematorium.
The AMC said the move is aimed at providing support to families during a difficult period of grief and reducing the financial burden associated with transporting the deceased. DeshGujarat
