AMC Toll-Free Helpline Number for Rescue of Homeless People in Ahmedabad
August 18, 2026
Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has launched a new initiative to identify and provide safe shelter to homeless people living in public places across the city.
Under the initiative, citizens who spot homeless people taking shelter on footpaths, under bridges, at religious places, bus stations, railway stations, gardens or other public spaces can call the AMC’s toll-free public complaint number 155303 and provide the location and other details.
Following a complaint, officials and staff of the AMC’s Urban Community Development (UCD) Department will reach the spot, counsel the person and shift them safely to the nearest shelter home. The civic body has arranged zone-wise rescue vehicles, dedicated staff and teams including bouncers to ensure that homeless people can be rescued promptly and provided with safe accommodation.
35 shelter homes operating 24×7
The AMC currently operates 35 shelter homes across different zones and wards of Ahmedabad on a 24×7 basis, with a combined capacity of 4,315 people. Shelter is provided free of cost without discrimination.
The shelter homes are equipped with basic facilities such as bunk beds, blankets, pillows, drinking water, geysers for hot water, cooking and dining utensils, gas connections and fire-safety arrangements, among other amenities.
The civic body has also linked the shelter homes with nearby Anganwadi centres and government schools to help connect children of shelter residents with educational services.
In addition, people staying at the shelters are provided guidance and assistance to help them access various government welfare schemes and other benefits for which they may be eligible.
Free food provided every night
The AMC also provides free, nutritious and hygienic food every night to all homeless people staying at its shelter homes.
The civic body has appealed to citizens to report homeless people seeking shelter in public places by calling 155303. The initiative aims to ensure that people living without shelter are moved to safe and dignified accommodation equipped with basic facilities. DeshGujarat
