AMC Seals 13 Food Units Near Vastrapur Lake for Encroaching on Footpaths and Roads

Ahmedabad: The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Wednesday sealed 13 food and beverage units for allegedly encroaching on footpaths and road margins by placing tables and chairs for customers in the Mansi Circle-Vastrapur Lake area.

The action was carried out by the Estate Department of AMC’s North-West Zone as part of a drive against encroachments on public roads, footpaths and margins. The civic body also recovered administrative charges of Rs 1.55 lakh from eight of the units.

The AMC said food and beverage establishments often use footpaths and margin spaces to place tables and chairs, creating obstructions for pedestrians and affecting the use of public spaces.

During the drive, officials inspected establishments along the stretch from Mansi Circle to Vastrapur Lake and took action against units found encroaching on public spaces. A total of 13 food and beverage units were sealed.

The civic body said it conducts such drives from time to time to prevent encroachments and ensure that footpaths and other public spaces remain accessible to pedestrians.
