Ahmedabad: The Food Department of Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has seized 408 kg of suspicious low-fat paneer allegedly brought from Rajasthan and intercepted while being unloaded from a luxury bus in the city. The consignment was reportedly transported from Jodhpur and Pali and was suspected to be intended for supply to dairies, hotels and restaurants.
The Food Department acted on information about suspicious food products being transported from Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. During the raid, officials seized the entire consignment and sent paneer samples to a laboratory for testing.
Two people from Ahmedabad, one from Naroda and another from Maninagar, allegedly arrived to collect the consignment. The Food Department questioned both men and initiated further legal action.
According to preliminary findings, the paneer was allegedly being supplied at around ₹240 per kg, significantly below prevailing market prices. Officials suspect that the product may be adulterated or unfit for consumption and are awaiting the laboratory report to determine its composition and safety.
The AMC Food Department said further action will be taken based on the laboratory findings and the investigation into the source and intended distribution of the consignment. Officials also said inspections against the sale and distribution of suspicious or adulterated food products will continue. DeshGujarat
