Shops on Private Plot Razed; AMC Denies Role, to File FIR Over Name Misuse
August 24, 2026
Ahmedabad: Three shops on a private plot were demolished in the Nana Chiloda area of the city, triggering a controversy after a video of the incident went viral. The video showed men wearing private agency uniforms claiming that the demolition was carried out by the city civic body. However, the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) clarified that it had no role in the demolition.
According to the AMC, the incident took place along a road in Ward No. 11 (Sardarnagar), which passes through the GIDC, Naroda area. The three shops, located next to an Indian Oil petrol pump, fall within the GIDC boundary.
After receiving information about the demolition, the AMC conducted a site inspection. Officials found that the demolition had taken place between around noon and 2 pm.
The civic body said it had not taken any action against the shops as the property falls within the GIDC area. Any action concerning the property would therefore have to be taken by the GIDC.
The AMC further said that the process of registering an FIR with the local police was underway over the alleged misuse of the civic body’s name in connection with the demolition. The civic body termed the unauthorised use of its name a punishable offence. DeshGujarat
