Non-Silver Foil on Kaju Katri: AMC Seals Three Mawa, Sweet Units

Ahmedabad: The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) Food Department has sealed three mawa (khoya) and sweets-related units in the city after detecting violations during inspections of food businesses. At one of the units, a rapid test of kaju katri found that the silver coating appeared to be made of a metal other than silver.

The Food Department sealed Shri Kanhaiyalal Mavawala, located at 18, Municipal Building, near Wagh Bakri Tea Shop, outside Kalupur Gate. During the inspection, a rapid testing kit was used to examine a sample of kaju katri. The test indicated that the foil used on the sweet was made of a metal other than silver.

Further investigation by the Food Department revealed that the kaju katri was being procured from a manufacturing unit located at 370/1976, Gujarat Housing Board, Bapunagar, Ahmedabad. Following the findings, the concerned unit was also sealed.

The Food Department also sealed Shri Balaji Mavawala’s godown in Vadigam, Dariapur, after finding that the establishment did not have an FSSAI licence and lacked adequate hygienic conditions.
