AMC Orders Sweets & Farsan Shops to Keep Food Testing Kits for Customers
August 27, 2026
Ahmedabad: The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has instructed sweets and farsan shops across the city to keep food testing kits at their premises, allowing customers to check the quality of food items on the spot, Kamlesh Patel, Chairman of the AMC Standing Committee, announced today.
The kits can be used to check the purity of ingredients such as mawa and identify the type of foil, silver or aluminium, used on sweets such as kaju katri. Traders have been directed to keep the kits available and use them properly.
The AMC said that shops found involved in adulteration or violating food safety norms will face fines and other legal action. Citizens can report complaints related to food quality through the AMC’s food safety helpline at 155303.

In another directive, around 1,100 hotels in Ahmedabad have been instructed to install CCTV cameras in their kitchens. The move is aimed at providing greater transparency to citizens about the conditions and premises where the food they consume is prepared.
Hotel operators have been asked to position the cameras in a way that clearly captures kitchen operations and complete the installation within the stipulated timeframe. DeshGujarat
