2 petrol pump operators among 4 booked over illegal diesel supply in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad CID (Crime) has booked four people, including two petrol pump operators and two tanker operators from Rajasthan, for allegedly supplying and transporting around 6,000 litres of diesel in violation of the Centre’s 200-litre daily limit.

Tanker owner Jitendra Chaudhary and driver Bhagirath Jat have been arrested. The duo allegedly used another tanker’s registration number to conceal the vehicle’s identity and evade loan recovery agents.

The case was registered on Monday after CID (Crime) intercepted the tanker while it was allegedly carrying diesel to an industrial unit in Dhamatvan, in Ahmedabad’s Daskroi taluka, in June.

According to the complaint, Chaudhary and Jat collected 3,000 litres of diesel from one fuel station and 3,020 litres from another in Kadi on June 24. During the probe, CID (Crime) found that the two pumps had supplied a combined 36,068 litres of diesel to the tanker between June 11 and June 24, far exceeding the prescribed limit.

The Centre’s June 11 notification had restricted the supply of motor spirit and high-speed diesel (HSD) from retail outlets.

After loading around 6,000 litres, the accused allegedly stopped the tanker en route to Dhamatvan, removed its original number plate and replaced it with one belonging to another tanker.

CID (Crime) seized the tanker, 6,000 litres of diesel, documents and samples, with the total value of the seized material estimated at Rs 27.9 lakh. DeshGujarat
