ACB Gujarat nabs cop for seeking bribe to ‘not beat’ accused; aide also held

Mehsana: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday arrested a constable posted at Satlasana police station in Mehsana district and a local resident for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 83,000 in connection with a gambling case.

The accused have been identified as constable Kanji Chaudhary and Ashish Chaudhary.

According to the ACB, the trap was laid after a man approached the bureau through its toll-free helpline, 1064. A gambling case had been registered at Satlasana police station against the complainant and some of his acquaintances.

The ACB said Kanji Chaudhary allegedly demanded Rs 1 lakh from the man, promising that those named in the case would not be beaten after being brought to the police station. The amount was later negotiated to Rs 83,000.

Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant contacted the ACB, which subsequently laid a trap. During the operation, the constable and his aide allegedly spoke to the complainant over the phone and accepted Rs 83,000, following which both were arrested. DeshGujarat
