5 Held in Surat for Swapping iPhones, Samsung Galaxy Phones, SSDs from Amazon Shipments

Surat: Surat police busted a gang and arrested five people, including a delivery executive, for allegedly stealing original electronic products worth Rs 8.82 lakh from Amazon consignments, replacing them with dummy items and returning the shipments to a warehouse.

According to an FIR registered at Pal police station on September 5, the key accused, Jay Virash, was working as a delivery executive handling Amazon shipments through Intex Transportation Services Pvt Ltd.

The matter came to light on August 20 after the company received a suspicious notification from an Amazon warehouse in the Pal area. Officials subsequently reviewed CCTV footage and examined consignments handled by Virash.

During the inquiry, officials allegedly found that a Samsung Galaxy Fold 8 Ultra 5G, valued at Rs 2.04 lakh, had been removed from its packaging and replaced with a dummy handset before the shipment was returned to the warehouse.

The company then scrutinised other consignments handled by the accused and allegedly detected similar discrepancies. These included two SanDisk Extreme 8TB Portable External SSDs, each valued at Rs 1.86 lakh, and an Apple iPhone 17 Pro 1TB worth Rs 1.83 lakh. The original products were allegedly replaced with dummy items.

The complaint further stated that on September 2, Virash took an iPhone 17 Pro Max 256GB, valued at Rs 1.22 lakh, out for delivery. However, the company allegedly did not receive the OTP confirming the delivery, and the consignment was not returned.

Police said the total value of the five consignments mentioned in the complaint was Rs 8.82 lakh.

The complainant alleged that Virash, who was responsible for delivering the products to customers within the stipulated time, opened the consignments, removed the original goods, replaced them with dummy items and retained the actual products.

The other accused in custody were identified as Niraj Kushwaha, Vivek Khatik, Vikas Khatik and Nikhil Moradiya. Police alleged that the accused had conspired to swap the high-value products.

A case has been registered under Section 316(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). DeshGujarat
