Ahmedabad: The Food Department of the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) organised a guidance meeting on food safety, FSSAI regulations, and packaging and labelling requirements for members of the Gujarat Bakers Association on Tuesday. More than 100 members participated in the meeting.
The session focused on the responsibilities of Food Business Operators (FBOs) under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, particularly those involved in bakery and related food businesses.
Officials provided detailed guidance on the Food Safety and Standards (Labelling and Display) Regulations, 2020 and the Food Safety and Standards (Packaging) Regulations, 2018, with special emphasis on pre-packaged food products.
FBOs were instructed to ensure that mandatory information is properly displayed on food labels, including the name of the food item, ingredients, allergen information, nutritional details, vegetarian/non-vegetarian symbol, net quantity, batch or lot number, date declarations, FSSAI logo, and licence/registration number, along with relevant manufacturer or packer details.
The officials also explained the responsibilities of FBOs under Section 26 of the FSS Act, requirements for obtaining a licence or registration under Section 31, and compliance with hygiene and sanitary practices prescribed under Schedule 4.
The meeting also stressed the need to avoid false or misleading labelling and misbranding, and to ensure that consumers receive accurate and clear information about food products.
The Designated Officer of the AMC Food Safety Department, along with Food Safety Officers from the North and East zones, attended the meeting and explained the applicable provisions. They also addressed queries raised by members of the association.
Members of the Gujarat Bakers Association and other FBOs present at the meeting assured the AMC of their cooperation in complying with the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, Rules, and Regulations. DeshGujarat
