Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation Election 2026 Schedule Announced

Gandhinagar: The Gujarat State Election Commission has announced the schedule for the general elections to the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation, Okha Municipality and Dwarka Municipality, along with by-elections to vacant seats in various local bodies across the state. According to the election programme issued by the State Election Commission on Wednesday, polling for the local body elections will be held on October 11, 2026 (Sunday), from 7 am to 5 pm.
The programme covers the general elections to the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation, Okha Municipality and Dwarka Municipality. It also includes by-elections to vacant seats in Kheralu Municipality, Chhota Udepur Municipality, Bayad Municipality, Devbhumi Dwarka District Panchayat, Padra Taluka Panchayat, Satlasana Taluka Panchayat and Harij Taluka Panchayat. The State Election Commission said the by-elections will cover a total of seven vacant seats.

- Publication of election notice: September 21, 2026
- Last date for filing nominations: September 26, 2026
- Scrutiny of nomination papers: September 28, 2026
- Last date for withdrawal of candidature: September 29, 2026
- Polling: October 11, 2026, from 7 am to 5 pm
- Re-poll, if required: October 12, 2026
- Counting of votes: October 13, 2026
- Completion of election process: October 15, 2026
With the announcement, the Model Code of Conduct has come into force in the areas covered by the elections from Wednesday.
Voters will be required to present their Elector Photo Identity Card (EPIC) during polling. The commission has also specified provisions for voters who are unable to produce their EPIC, allowing them to present other prescribed documents to establish their identity.
Voting in the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation, municipalities, district panchayat and taluka panchayat elections will be conducted using Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
The State Election Commission has directed the concerned authorities to make the necessary arrangements to ensure that polling is conducted smoothly.
