LG Hospital in Ahmedabad gets new mortuary with 18 cold storage units
September 16, 2026
Ahmedabad: A modern mortuary equipped with a post-mortem department and 18 cold storage units was inaugurated on Wednesday at the Amdavad Municipal Corporation-run Sheth L.G. Municipal General Hospital in Maninagar.
The new facility is expected to reduce the need for residents and police personnel from eastern parts of the city to travel to Civil Hospital in Asarwa or other distant facilities for post-mortem examinations and related procedures. The availability of these services in Maninagar is expected to save time and reduce transportation-related challenges, particularly in cases involving accidents, sudden deaths and other medico-legal matters.
The mortuary has 18 advanced cold storage units designed to ensure the safe preservation of mortal remains under appropriate temperature-controlled conditions. The facility also has the necessary equipment and access to forensic expertise to support post-mortem examinations, medico-legal investigations and related legal procedures.
In addition to its medico-legal role, the new post-mortem department will support medical education by providing medical students with practical exposure to forensic medicine, toxicology and medico-legal procedures.
Hospital authorities said the facility marks an important step towards strengthening citizen-centric healthcare and medico-legal services in East Ahmedabad. The hospital said it would continue to focus on providing timely, compassionate and quality services to citizens. DeshGujarat
