₹100 Commemorative Coin to Mark 1,000 Years of Modhera Sun Temple

New Delhi, September 18: Ahead of likely visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Modhera in later half of September, the Ministry of Finance has notified rules for the issuance of a commemorative ₹100 coin to mark the completion of 1,000 years of the Modhera Sun Temple in Gujarat.

The Department of Economic Affairs issued the notification, G.S.R. 825(E), on September 18, 2026, under the Coinage Act, 2011. The rules will come into force from the date of their publication in the Official Gazette.

According to the notification, the ₹100 denomination coin will be coined at the Mint for commemorating the occasion under the authority of the Central Government.

The commemorative coin will be circular in shape with an outside diameter of 44 millimetres. The notification provides for 200 serrations on the coin.

The coin will be made of nickel silver, comprising 60 per cent copper, 20 per cent nickel and 20 per cent zinc.

The detailed design of the coin will be as specified in the First Schedule to the rules, while its standard weight and permissible remedy in making the coin will be prescribed in the Second Schedule.

The Modhera Sun Temple, located in Gujarat’s Mehsana district, is dedicated to the Sun God and is a protected monument under the Archaeological Survey of India. DeshGujarat
