Surat Multi-Modal Transport Hub Project: Phase 1 crosses halfway mark; Phase 2 42% complete

Surat: Construction of the ambitious Surat Multi-Modal Transportation Hub (MMTH) project has crossed the halfway mark, with 51% of Phase 1 and 42% of Phase 2 work completed, according to the Surat Integrated Transportation Company (SITCO).

The project, being developed over 2.5 lakh square metres as a joint initiative of the Ministry of Railways, the Gujarat government and the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC), is expected to be completed by December 2027, with both phases progressing simultaneously.

Phase 1, being executed at a cost of ₹877.78 crore, covers the station building and concourse. About 90% of the work on the ST Bus Terminal (ISBT) building has been completed, while external development work is currently underway.

Work on the eastern station building is 45% complete, while 43% of the massive concourse has been completed. Girder launching and slab casting between Platform No. 4 and Platforms 2-3 have been completed. Work on the concourse section between Platforms 1 and 2 is expected to begin after the Diwali rush.

Around 75% of the GSRTC workshop has also been completed, along with 45% of the structural work for the roof.

The architectural and structural drawings for the western station building have been approved. Construction of the western building will begin after completion of the eastern building.

Meanwhile, Phase 2 involves the construction of a 5-km elevated road corridor, being developed at a cost of ₹372.91 crore to help ease traffic congestion in the city.

So far, piling work has been completed for 605 of the planned 795 piles, while 110 of 160 pile caps and 90 of 174 piers have been completed. Girder casting has been completed for 183 of 394 girders, while deck slab casting is underway. A total of 54 girders are also being erected.

For the 54-metre Railway Overbridge (ROB-1), piling work has been completed and pier casting is in progress.

Once completed, the MMTH is expected to provide an integrated transport facility for around 6.25 lakh daily commuters, bringing railway, BRTS, city bus, ST bus and future Metro connectivity under a single roof. DeshGujarat
