Amreli: Amreli City Congress president Sandip Dhanani has been booked for allegedly assaulting a young man with a tea kettle late at night on Savarkundla Bypass Road near the RTO office. The incident, which was captured on CCTV, left the victim with head injuries requiring nine stitches.
According to the complaint, the incident took place near the Rajchamunda shop, where Dharmkumar Jagrutbhai Joshipura had gone late at night to buy mava-masala. Dhanani was allegedly present at the spot and asked Joshipura to leave. He then allegedly picked up a tea kettle from a nearby tea stall and struck Joshipura on the head four to five times.
Joshipura sustained serious injuries and was initially treated at a hospital in Amreli. He was later shifted to Rajkot Civil Hospital after complications, including a suspected haemorrhage, were reported. His family said doctors have advised him to undergo a CT scan.
The complaint also alleges that Dhanani threatened to kill Joshipura following the assault. Amreli City Police have registered a case based on the complaint and are investigating the incident. CCTV footage is also being examined as part of the probe.
