Live: 72nd National Film Awards at Ekta Nagar in Gujarat

Ekta Nagar: The 72nd National Film Awards ceremony is being held in Ekta Nagar in Kevadia today, with the President of India presenting the prestigious honours to recognise outstanding contributions to Indian cinema for 2024.

The ceremony brings together leading actors, filmmakers, technicians and other members of the Indian film industry as winners across various categories are being honoured.

The National Film Awards, instituted in 1954, recognise excellence in Feature Films, Non-Feature Films and Writing on Cinema across languages, regions and different forms of filmmaking.

Anant Nag to receive Dadasaheb Phalke Award

Veteran actor Anant Nag is being conferred the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2024 at the ceremony in recognition of his outstanding contribution to Indian cinema.

With a career spanning more than five decades, Nag has made a significant contribution to Kannada and Indian cinema through his diverse body of work. The award recognises his long-standing contribution to the country’s film industry.

‘Article 370’ wins Best Feature Film

Among the major honours, Article 370 has been selected as the Best Feature Film, while Bhangaar has been named the Best Non-Feature Film and Ram-Nami the Best Documentary.

In the acting categories, Mammootty for Bramayugam and Kartik Aaryan for Chandu Champion have been selected for Best Actor in a Leading Role, while Yami Gautam is receiving the Best Actress in a Leading Role award for Article 370.

Randeep Hooda has been selected for the Best Debut Director award for Swatantrya Veer Savarkar.

Films including Kalki 2898 AD, Amaran, Pushpa: The Rule Part-02, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 and Stree 2 are also receiving honours in various categories.

The ceremony is being held in Gujarat as part of a new initiative by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to take the National Film Awards celebrations to different parts of the country in the coming years.

The move is aimed at bringing the celebration of Indian cinema closer to different regions while highlighting the country’s cultural and cinematic diversity. DeshGujarat
