Restaurant, dairy among 4 food units sealed in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad: The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) Food Department has sealed four food establishments for violating food safety and hygiene norms during inspections.

Shreeji Dairy Parlor in Chenpur was sealed after earlier sample testing detected vegetable fat in ghee, raising concerns over possible adulteration and misrepresentation of the product.

Majlis Restaurant in Juhapura was sealed after officials found unsanitary and unhygienic conditions in the kitchen. The establishment was also found to be non-compliant with the hygiene and sanitation requirements under Schedule-4 of FSSAI norms.

In Isanpur, Rajasthan Dalvada Center was sealed after laboratory testing of a previously collected sample of reused cooking oil showed Total Polar Compounds (TPC) at 32.1%, exceeding the FSSAI-prescribed maximum limit of 25%. Used cooking oil with TPC levels above 25% is not permitted for food preparation.

Meanwhile, Shantinath Jain Gruh Udyog in Ranip was sealed following an inspection conducted on the basis of a citizen’s complaint. Officials found expired food products at the premises.

The AMC said future inspections will focus on several key areas, including possession of a valid FSSAI licence or registration, compliance with hygiene and sanitation standards, proper storage of food items, and ensuring that expired or unfit products are not used.

Officials will also check the quality and handling of cooking oil, kitchen and utensil hygiene, food storage and handling practices, as well as possible cases of adulteration and other regulatory violations.

Under FSSAI standards, cooking oil with TPC levels exceeding 25% cannot be used for food preparation. Food business operators using cooking oil beyond the specified limits are also required to maintain records of its usage and disposal.

The AMC has instructed all canteens and food establishments in the city to operate with valid FSSAI licences or registrations and comply with food safety, hygiene and sanitation regulations. DeshGujarat
