AMC shuts Sunrise Living PG kitchen, five meat shops over hygiene lapses

Ahmedabad: The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) Food Department, as part of its ongoing inspection drive across the city, shut down the kitchen of Sunrise Living PG on Ashram Road and five meat and chicken shops in Dudheshwar over alleged hygiene and sanitation violations.

The AMC closed the kitchen of Sunrise Living PG, located opposite the Bata showroom near Gujarat Tourism on Ashram Road. During the inspection, officials found that around 150 to 200 working professionals and students were reportedly having meals at the premises every day.

Officials found that kitchen workers were not wearing caps, aprons or gloves. Mould was found on stored bread, while an expired sauce and insects were also reportedly detected in the kitchen. The establishment was also found to be non-compliant with hygiene and sanitation requirements under Schedule 4 of FSSAI regulations.

In a separate action, the AMC shut down five meat and chicken shops located behind the Shahibaug Police Commissioner’s Office, opposite Dariyakhan Ghummat in Tavdipura, Dudheshwar.

The establishments were operated by Mohammad Sagir Noor Mohammad Qureshi, Mohammad Sadiq Noor Mohammad Qureshi, Abdul Rahim Noor Mohammad Qureshi, Abdul Khaliq Noor Mohammad Qureshi and Mohammad Sameer Noor Mohammad Qureshi.

According to the AMC, inspections found that the five establishments were not following the hygiene and sanitation requirements prescribed under Schedule 4 of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and that the premises were being maintained in unhygienic conditions.

The AMC said inspections of food establishments will continue across the city to check compliance with food safety, hygiene and sanitation standards and prevent violations. DeshGujarat
