9 plots identified for parking near Ahmedabad Metro stations

Ahmedabad: The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has identified nine municipal plots near Metro stations to develop pay-and-park facilities, with space for around 5,903 two-wheelers and 246 cars.

The proposal is reportedly set to be placed before the AMC Standing Committee this week. The move aims to address parking shortages around Metro stations and make public transport more convenient for commuters who drive to the stations.

Five of the identified plots are in western Ahmedabad and four are in the eastern part of the city. The sites include locations near Vastral Gam, Nirant Cross Road, Apparel Park, Thaltej Gam, Gandhigram, Vadaj and Sabarmati Metro stations.

The AMC plans to operate the parking facilities through a revenue-sharing model, with users charged for parking. CCTV cameras will also be installed at entry and exit points.

The civic body is separately identifying 17 more plots for a second phase of parking facilities near Metro stations.

The move comes after the AMC’s earlier feeder bus service connecting residential areas with Metro stations received a poor response and was discontinued. Officials said parking constraints and the limited availability of suitable municipal land have been key challenges in improving last-mile connectivity.
