Lothal to get 3D-printed GSRTC bus terminal

Ahmedabad: Lothal, the ancient port city of the Indus Valley Civilization, is set to get a new GSRTC bus terminal that will be built using 3D concrete printing technology. The National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC) is also being developed near the historic site.

The Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) has invited bids for the construction of the terminal at Lothal in Dholka taluka. The project will come up on a nearly 5,000-square-metre plot near the NMHC, with a proposed built-up area of around 750 square metres.

The new terminal will have five bus bays, passenger waiting areas, ticket and inquiry counters, shops or canteen space, staff rooms, and a baby-feeding room with a toilet.

It will also have basic facilities such as public toilets, drinking water, parking, and bus circulation areas. A 50-kW rooftop solar power system, rainwater harvesting, and fire-safety infrastructure are also part of the project.

GSRTC has set a nine-month deadline for completing the terminal from the date of issue of the work order. As the project is located near the historic Lothal archaeological site, the construction will have to comply with applicable archaeological regulations.

The scope of work includes pre-construction activities, detailed design and planning, execution of the construction work, and project monitoring and handover, covering the terminal’s development from the initial planning stage to completion.
