GSRTC to redevelop Somnath bus station for ₹78 crore

Somnath: Visitors travelling to the Somnath temple and local here are set to get a modernised bus station as the Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) moves ahead with the redevelopment of the existing Somnath bus station.

The redevelopment is estimated to cost ₹78.27 crore, and GSRTC has invited bids to appoint a Project Management Consultant (PMC) for the project.

The PMC will oversee the project from construction to completion. Its responsibilities will include site supervision, quality control, verification of contractor bills and measurements, monitoring construction progress and assisting GSRTC in obtaining statutory approvals.

As part of the redevelopment, the existing bus station will get a modern bus terminal with commercial spaces, passenger amenities, upgraded electrical and mechanical systems, solar power integration and improved transport infrastructure.

For pilgrims visiting the Somnath temple, one of Gujarat’s major religious destinations, the upgraded facility is expected to provide a more organised and comfortable transit experience.

Meanwhile, given Somnath’s coastal location, the PMC will also ensure that construction complies with relevant standards for coastal exposure, including requirements related to concrete durability and resistance to chloride and sulphate. It will also monitor compliance with applicable wind and seismic safety standards.

The consultant will assist GSRTC in obtaining and renewing various statutory approvals and clearances, including Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) clearance, Fire NOC, Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) consent, Shree Somnath Trust NOC and Building Use (BU) permission.

The contract will have a tenure of two years from the date of the work order or letter of intent, or until the completion and handover of the project, whichever is later. DeshGujarat
