AMC Seals Vastrapur Ganthiya Shop Over High TPC Levels in Cooking Oil
October 19, 2026
Ahmedabad: The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has sealed a ganthiya shop named Vastrapur Ganthiya after the Total Polar Compounds (TPC) level in its cooking oil was found to be 32, exceeding the permissible limit. The action comes as the civic body’s Food Department intensifies inspections of fafda-jalebi shops across the city ahead of Dussehra.
During the inspection, officials also collected samples of fafda and jalebi for laboratory testing and destroyed 10 kg of degraded cooking oil found at the establishment.
Food Inspector Mahendra Patel said the department is conducting inspections across various zones to check the quality of festive food items and the oil used in their preparation. Samples have been sent to a laboratory, and further action will be taken if they are found to be unfit for consumption.
According to Patel, cooking oil with a TPC level exceeding 25% is considered unfit for consumption. Repeated heating of oil increases the concentration of polar compounds, which can affect its quality and pose health risks.
The AMC has continued inspections at other establishments selling fafda, jalebi and other festive snacks. Action may be taken against vendors found violating food safety standards. DeshGujarat
