Ahmedabad: The alleged slapping of a Class IX student six times by a teacher at Sheth CN Vidyalaya has triggered a controversy, prompting the Ahmedabad City-West District Education Officer (DEO) to issue a notice to the school and order an inquiry within seven days. CCTV footage of the incident has also been obtained.
According to a complaint filed by the student’s father, the incident took place on October 14 between 12.45 pm and 1 pm. The teacher, Ghanshyamsinh Dabhi, who teaches Hindi, Sanskrit and English, allegedly slapped the student six times over claims of misbehaviour in class. He is also accused of sending the boy out of the classroom.
The father alleged that the incident had left his son traumatised. He said schools were responsible for ensuring students’ safety and education, adding that physical or mental harassment on school premises was prohibited under applicable laws and regulations. He has sought strict disciplinary and legal action against the teacher.
Following the complaint, the DEO’s office issued a notice to the school seeking an explanation. The education inspector has been directed to conduct a detailed inquiry and submit a factual report within seven days. DeshGujarat
