Jio Platforms Listing Celebrated with Community Feast, Lok Dayro in Dhirubhai Ambani’s Hometown

Chorvad: The stock market listing of Jio Platforms at a premium of over 21% was celebrated with great fanfare in Chorvad, the hometown of Dhirubhai Ambani. On Wednesday night, a community feast for more than 25,000 villagers was followed by a Lok Dayro, a traditional Gujarati folk performance featuring renowned artists from the state. Parimal Nathwani, Director of Corporate Affairs at Reliance Industries and a Rajya Sabha member, was present on the occasion.

Addressing the gathering, Nathwani recalled a three-day visit to Chorvad and Kukaswada in 1995 with Dhirubhai Ambani and Kokilaben Ambani. He also fondly remembered the people who accompanied them on that visit. Expressing his emotions, he said that just as Reliance Industries, Dhirubhai’s dream project, had made significant progress on the global stage, Jio Platforms had also established a new global benchmark.

He said the way Mukesh Ambani and his children, Akash, Isha and Anant Ambani, had carried forward Dhirubhai’s vision through the group’s extraordinary growth was a matter of pride not only for the Ambani family but also for the entire nation. Reflecting on the past, Nathwani said the trust investors had placed in Dhirubhai during Reliance’s initial public offering (IPO) remained strong, as reflected in Jio Platforms’ successful stock market debut.

Recalling Dhirubhai’s association with Chorvad, Nathwani said that when Reliance Industries launched its IPO, Dhirubhai ensured that the village’s residents were included by allocating shares to them and involving them in the family’s celebrations and milestones. He said the Ambani family had continued to honour Dhirubhai’s roots following Jio Platforms’ listing, with the second and third generations preserving his legacy.

Nathwani also highlighted the facilities developed by the Ambani family for villagers, including the Dhirubhai Ambani Medical and Computer Centre, which has been operational since 2017; the Shri H.G. Ambani Girls’ High School; and the newly constructed Shri H.G. Ambani Higher Secondary School in Kukaswada.

In his concluding remarks, Nathwani thanked the Ambani family for the opportunity to attend the dual celebration organised by the Reliance family in Chorvad. He also conveyed the family’s gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his support in what he described as a significant milestone.
