Foundation Stone Laid for Ahmedabad Metro Phase 2 Extensions to Airport and GIFT City

Ahmedabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday laid the foundation stone for two extensions of the Ahmedabad Metro network Phase-2A (Airport Extension) and Phase-2B (GIFT City Extension), aimed at improving connectivity to the city’s airport and enhancing intra-city transport within Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City).

The two projects will cover a combined initial stretch of over 9.3 km and involve an estimated investment of ₹2,700 crore.

Under Phase-2A, a 6-km metro corridor will connect Koteshwar Road to Ahmedabad Airport at an estimated cost of ₹1,800 crore. The route will feature five stations, with four elevated stations and one underground station at the airport.

The stretch from Koteshwar Road to Taj Circle, via Hansol, will be elevated, while the section from Taj Circle to the airport will run underground. The proposed Airport Metro Station will provide passengers with direct access to the terminal through lifts and escalators, facilitating seamless connectivity between the metro network and air travel.

Meanwhile, Phase-2B will extend the metro network further into GIFT City, where metro services currently reach the city gate. The initial 3.3-km stretch, estimated to cost ₹900 crore, will connect GIFT City to Shahpur through three elevated stations.

The extension is intended to improve connectivity between GIFT City’s financial and residential zones, providing easier commuting options for employees, students and other daily passengers.

Together, the two extensions are expected to strengthen Ahmedabad’s metro connectivity with key transport and commercial hubs, including Ahmedabad Airport and GIFT City. DeshGujarat
