Boating at Nal Sarovar to Resume from Dec 15; 200 New Boats to Be Deployed

Ahmedabad: Boating services at Nalsarovar Bird Sanctuary are expected to commence by December 15, with the Gujarat Tourism Corporation Limited (GTCL) preparing to introduce around 200 boats this month. Ahead of the launch, 230 local water sports operators have undergone life-saving and water rescue training to ensure tourist safety.

The boats are expected to arrive by the end of November, following which the Forest Department will oversee their allocation. The initiative comes after boating activities resumed at Kankaria Lake and is aimed at improving tourism infrastructure and safety at Nalsarovar.

GTCL, in collaboration with the National Institute of Water Sports, organised a month-long training programme titled Life-Saving Techniques for Water Sports Operators at the Nalsarovar complex from October 4 to November 2. The programme was conducted through five-day training batches, covering both theoretical and practical aspects of water safety.

Participants were trained in identifying aquatic emergencies, rescuing drowning victims, swimming, lifeguard duties and emergency response. The sessions also included demonstrations and practical assessments of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid.

Nalsarovar Bird Sanctuary has recorded more than 15,877 visitors this year. With tourist footfall and boating activities expected to increase, the training programme aims to strengthen the emergency response capabilities of local operators and minimise the risk of accidents, ensuring a safer experience for visitors.
