Gujarat Govt Declares Additional Diwali Holiday for Employees; to Be Swapped with 4th Saturday
November 04, 2026
Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government has declared November 9, 2026, a holiday for all state government offices to enable employees to celebrate Diwali with their families in their hometowns. The holiday will be compensated by making government offices operational on November 28, the fourth Saturday of the month.
According to a notification issued by the General Administration Department (GAD) on November 4, the holiday will apply to all government offices, including those under the state government, panchayats, and state-run boards and corporations.
The decision comes as November 9 falls between the Diwali holiday on November 8, New Year Day on November 10, and Bhai Bij on November 11. Although November 9 was originally a working day, the government has now declared it a holiday to facilitate festive celebrations.
