November 04, 2026
Amreli: The Gujarat government has granted in-principle approval for the development of a fish landing centre on Shiyalbet Island in Amreli district, addressing a long-standing demand of the local fishing community and improving infrastructure for fishermen.
The project will benefit 1,101 fishermen residing on the island, which has a population of 2,680 and a fleet of 154 fishing boats. Shiyalbet records an annual fish production of 4,711 tonnes, highlighting the importance of fishing to the local economy and livelihoods.
The proposed fish landing centre will feature modern infrastructure, including a pile jetty, land reclamation, a stone bund and paver blocks. These facilities are expected to provide fishermen with safer and more convenient access for landing their catch and carrying out fishing-related activities.
The initiative is expected to strengthen fisheries infrastructure, improve operational efficiency for local fishermen and support the livelihoods and economic activities of the fishing community. DeshGujarat
